Pakhala is Odisha’s most popular traditional food, and can be enjoyed with a varieties of side dishes, with both veg and non veg recipes.

To promote Odia Food around the globe three years back a group of Odia’s planned to to celebrate Pakhala together on March 20th. And this is the 4th consecutive year to carry the celebration all around.

Types of Pakhala

Dahi Pakhaḷa – Dahi Pakhala is made by adding Curd with pakhaḷa.
Garama Pakhaḷa (Hot Pakhaḷa) is generally made by adding water instantly after making rice or with warm rice.
Basi pakhaḷa (Basi in Odia means “stale”) is made by fermenting rice by adding water which is generally kept overnight and consumed in the next day.
Jeera Pakhaḷa is made by adding fried cumin with curry leaves with Pakhaḷa.
