Chaitra Shuklapaksha Chaturdashi

ଚୈତ୍ର ଶୁକ୍ଳପକ୍ଷ ଚତୁର୍ଦ୍ଦଶୀ

Chaitra Shuklapaksha Chaturdashi is called Damanak Chaturdashi in our state. This fourteenth is important for both Shaiva and Vaishnava. The Chaturdashi is celebrated at the Puri Sree Mandir and the Srilingaraja Temple in Bhubaneswar as per its own rules.

Lord Krishna cut off the leaves from the Dayak or Dayana tree in Nandankanan in Devaraja Indra and wore them with his own hands. Therefore, on this day, the moving idols of Rama and Krishna are taken from the temple to the Jagannath Ballabh Math in a procession and a pity letter is offered. The leaves of mercy are as holy as the basil. Its other name is Nagdaman. Legend has it that the goddess Rati and Preeti Devi wept bitterly after Kamadeva was burnt to death in the blaze of Shiva’s third eye. Their tears made the pity tree grow. Srilingaraja’s repressive Bhanjika Yatra is held on this 14th day. On this occasion, moving idols of Srilingaraja, Goddess Parvati, Basudev and Goddess Rukmini are taken in a procession to the Tirtheswar temple. The Dayana tree is worshiped near the Tirtheshwar Ling. After the meeting of Tirtheshwar and Srilingaraja, the moving idols are brought back to the temple.
