Rasgulla Political War – Odisha and Bengal Govt Fights

Odisha had celebrated RasaGola Dibasa on 30th July, claiming RasaGola to be an Odia Dish being served to Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannath on Niladri Bijey since a decade. This proves that the origin of RasaGola is from Odisha.

But recently The Mamta Banarjee Government has Swung into action and has begun preparatory documentation for getting a Geographical Indication (GI) registration for the RasaGola. The Science and Technology Minister Robi Ranjan Chatterjee said they have initiated the documentation process prior to submitting their application.

Seeing this The BJD members had raised the RasaGola Issue in Odisha Assembly and asked the Govt. to take steps for protection of state’s culture and heritage.

BJD member and former minister R P Swain said in the assembly “The Bengal Government is trying to hijack the heritage of Odisha. When everybody knows that Rasagola is being offered to Lord Jagannath since centuries, how can Bengal government claim that the sweet is their invention,” Senior . He asked the state government to protect the state’s age-old culture and heritage.

Mr. R P Swain was also supported by BJD MLA Priyadarshi Mishra who also claimed that Odisha has observed the RasaGola Dibasa this year, a day before Lord Jagannath’s Bahuda Jatra (return car festival).

The State ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) is now busy gathering documents to prove its point for obtaining GI status for the exquisite ‘Pahala Rasagola’ Located on Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Highway
