Odisha to develop beachfront investment zone near puri Recent Orissa News
With an eye on boosting tourist arrivals, the Odisha government has acquired nearly 1,000 acres for developing an exclusive tourism investment zone on beachfront at Shamuka near world famous Puri in two to three years.
At a roadshow organised here on Wednesday, Odisha Tourism Deputy Director Utpal K. Pati and Senior Tourism Officer B.K. Jena said that several facilities including water sports, wellness centres, hotels and recreation centres would come up at Shamuka.
A joint venture company comprising the Orissa Tourism Development Corporation and the Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation is being formed for development of beachfront at Shamuka with world-class facilities. The Odisha government has also decided to form a special development authority for making Chilka, Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon, into a big tourist attraction.
Stating that tourists from Andhra Pradesh account for second largest after West Bengal in visiting various sight-seeing places in neighbouring Odisha, Mr. Pati said Odisha had emerged as a popular rendezvous.
