Butterfly Park at Daringbadi ‘Kashmir of Odisha’

Butterfly Park at Daringbadi of Kandhamal district, an important tourist destination known as ‘Kashmir of Odisha’.

A nature park with special emphasis to protect from harm and showcasing butterflies as well as medicinal plants in which an animal or plant normally lives and grows.

The project developed by the forest department on around four hectares og area managed and maintained by the Sarangirpi Van Suraksha Samity (VSS), an association of the local people involved in protection of forests and nature in the region.

Butterfly Park of Daringbadi is second of its kind after Nandankanan in Bhubaneswar.

In Daringbadi Butterfly Park the visitors can enjoy a variety of colourful butterflies in their natural surroundings to understand their signified in the ecosystem.

Butterflies have been provided shelter, food and natural habitat have been provided for the butterflies to stay and breed.

Water flows from the rockery to the lily pond through water ways crossing the park to provide natural habitat for the butterflies.

A small auditorium has also been constructed for 3D shows on nature, environment and wild life conservation.

How to reach Daringbadi:

By Rail:

There is no railhead in Daringbadi. You need to get down at Berhampur which is about 125 kilometres away from this scenic hill station. From there, you need to take private vehicle to reach Daringbadi.

By Road:

Easiest way to reach Daringbadi is to book a private taxi from nearest location like Berhampur, Phulbani or Balliguda. You can also use services of public bus transport running between Berhampur and Daringbadi.

Following is the distance between Daringbadi and other major towns of Odisha.

Bhubaneswar – 250 kilometres (takes 5.30 – 6.00 hours)
Berhampur – 125 kilometres (takes 3.00 – 3.30 hours)
Gopalpur on sea – 140 kilometres (takes 3.30 – 4.00 hours)
